Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying: "Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth hath the Lord, the God of heaven, given me; and He hath charged me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whosoever there is among you of all His people -- the Lord his God be with him--let him go up".

But he [King of the North] shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of EGYPT; and the LIBYANS and the ETHIOPIANS shall be at his steps. But tidings out of the east [CHINA, JAPAN, RUSSIA] and out of the north [AMERICA, ENGLAND] shall affright him; and he [King of the North] shall go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to take away many.

At Chanukkah we observed the defeat of the wicked Antiochus Epiphanes, bent upon the destruction of Jews and Judaism. Our heroes were Matityahu and Judah Maccabee. At Purim we celebrated the destruction of Haman bent on the extermination of all Jews in the 127 countries of the Persian empire. Our heroes were Mordechai and Queen Esther.

Thereafter Jews were prominent and with Persian help rebuilt the Second Temple in 516 B.C.E. The Persian Jewish community prospered until the fall of the Shah to Ayatollah Khomenei in 1979. The last flight of El Al to IRAN brought a vacation group called "The Religious Group", directed by us. We stayed a few days in TEHERAN. The Jewish hotel owner placed some small Israeli flags on each table "to make us feel at home".

A year later we learned that this Jewish hotel owner was murdered by the Khomenei government, accused of being a spy for ISRAEL because he put Israeli flags on our tables. Since the fall of the Shah to Khomenei in 1979, there have been no diplomatic relations between ISRAEL and IRAN. Many Jewish residents of Iran escaped via FRANCE, settling there and in ISRAEL. In our building here in JERUSALEM we had several families from Iran.

With the entrance of the State of Israel into the United Nations and the immediate attack by seven Arab nations in 1948, IRAN became a prime supplier of arms and equipment to all seven Arab nations. With the help of the UNITED STATES and with our own manufacturing of most arms we were able to overcome subsequent wars launched against us by our Arab enemies.

IRAQ under Saddam Hussein had developed the beginnings of a nuclear weapon. Israel under Prime Minister Menachem Begin destroyed the Iraqi nuclear plant by a brilliant air attack in 1981. In the Six Day War of June, 1967, ISRAEL defeated EGYPT, SYRIA and JORDAN, the most well equipped and trained Arab nations, in six days. It took another war, the Yom Kippur War of October, 1973 wherein we defeated EGYPT and SYRIA with losses of thousands of dead and wounded Israelis, to establish "peace" with EGYPT and JORDAN.

After the fall of the Shah to Khomenei in 1979, there developed a close relationship between IRAN and SYRIA wherein IRAN sent huge loads of arms and equipment to the Palestine Authority Fatah "police" and much more to mass murder groups, particularly to "Saudi" Arabian petro-dollar profit financed Wahhabi Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Pseudo-Shi'ite Hizbullah. The Hizbullah chief boasted that he had 12,000 sophisticated missiles pointed towards ISRAEL.

After the UNITED STATES invasion and conquest of IRAQ in 2003, American troops encountered "insurgents" -- both of the "Saudi" Arabian petro-dollar profit financed Wahhabi and Iranian Mullah-ocracy petro-dollar profit financed Pseudo Shi'ite variety -- by the thousands coming into IRAQ from IRAN and SYRIA. U.S. and Coalition forces suffered thousands of dead and wounded at the hands of these "insurgents". Other Arabs and Muslim countries also support the "insurgents". There is no lack of petro-dollar profit Arab and Muslim mass murder "insurgent" financing.

The "Saudi" Arabian petro-dollar profit financed Wahhabi Al Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden, and Muslim Brotherhood, led by Yusuf Qaradawi -- both of whose money still sits in "Saudi" Arabian banks -- has caused terrible casualties also in Europe (LONDON and MADRID bombings, France riots) and around the world. To make matters much worse, IRAN, already supplying arms and money to "insurgents" in IRAQ, chose a new President who has "crossed the red line".

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had come up with some statements unheard before, insulting and vowing to destroy other United Nations members. First he declared, "Israel should be wiped off from the map of the world". Then he stated clearly that Islamic nations will destroy the Western nations and a relief will come to the earth with the disappearance of the UNITED STATES and of the Zionist nation (ISRAEL).

Much resentment was expressed by many United Nations members including Muslim nations. The Iranian Foreign Minister had difficulty "explaining the misunderstanding" of the President's remarks. Things calmed down while European nations were pressing about the progress of stopping the Iranian nuclear program.

All of a sudden up came the Iranian President with another sensation, "The Holocaust is a myth". Explaining by the Iranian Foreign Minister did no good. Virtually all the nations rose in arms at this disgraceful conduct. Their joint response was, "These comments are wholly unacceptable and have no place in civilized political debate".

In BERLIN the Iranian President's statements were called "completely unacceptable. In GERMANY denial of the Holocaust is a crime, a country sensitive about its Nazi past and the genocide that killed more than six million Jews during World War II". It appeared that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was stalling for time and a refusal to report any progress in dismantling Iran's nuclear program.

Envoys from BRITIAN, GERMANY and FRANCE are pressing IRAN to halt uranium enrichment. United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stated, "I haven't seen any evidence that IRAN is interested in a deal that is going to be acceptable to an international community that is extremely skeptical of what the Iranians are up to".

Rice's approach is to advise the nations of the U.N. Security Council to impose sanctions on Iran. The European Nations have warned that "The open window to your cooperation may close soon". Sessions had begun, but closed immediately. There are responses warning IRAN of an attack upon its nuclear arsenal, by ISRAEL.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon declared, "We have no intention of attacking IRAN, but ISRAEL will know how to defend itself if anyone threatens its existence".

To date, IRAN, with the aid of North Korean technology and personnel, as reported by Mr. Stephen Howard Fox, ("Famine Stricken North Korea: On the Road to Nuclear Armageddon?", Thursday, August 4, 2005 Talk in the Root & Branch Lecture Series at the Orthodox Union Israel Center in JERUSALEM) has concentrated on the development of its missiles, improving their targeting ability.

Now Iranian missiles can reach TURKEY. IRAN is providing improved missiles to SYRIA and Hizbullah. TURKEY and IRAN, both Muslim nations (TURKEY Sunni, IRAN Shi'ite), are bitter enemies. The Turkish High Court ruled that Iran is a terrorist state, which supports terror groups worldwide.

Fortunately, ISRAEL has a broad agreement with TURKEY, including military operations, particularly air force maneuvers. Israel's Chief of Staff has been meeting with the Turkish Chief of Staff and associate Generals to be on alert as necessary.

It is very strange that after some 2,600 years we are back to the Purim story where another Haman has arisen to wipe us out.

"The Almighty watches over those who love Him and the wicked He shall destroy. He watching over Israel slumbers not nor sleeps".
