Jordan: Adventures of a Lifetime

Destination: JORDAN

HISTORIC ADVENTURE AWAITS IN JORDAN

By IAN WILSON -- Calgary Sun

It's a land of adventure and beauty that has attracted Lawrence of Arabia and Indiana Jones. At one time or another it has been under the influence of Greek, Roman, Nabataean, Byzantine or Ottoman rule. Its rich past is also layered with a religious history that includes stories about Muhammad, Moses, Jesus, John the Baptist and John Paul II. And if that's not reason enough to venture into the Middle East, Petra and Wadi Rum are jewels which should make Jordan a must-visit country.

Dear Ian,

You're absolutely right that Jordan has much to offer tourists. I was with the Worldwide Church of God group that broke records staying in Jordan for two weeks in 1987 celebrating our biblical/Jewish Feast of Tabernacles, with tours to the places you mentioned, especially Petra (where the High Priest Aaron is believed to be buried). The government said most folks spend a weekend en route to the Holy Land of Israel. Some of us understand Jordan is part of Greater Israel and therefore holy too!

Thanks for the memories,

David Ben-Ariel
