ANN ELIZABETH HOOVER
---------------
Ann Elizabeth, daughter of John H. and Mary Creeger, was born in Seneca County, Hopewell Township, Ohio, October 23, 1835. Here she passed her childhood, youth and womanhood. She was united in marriage with Abraham Hoover May 23, 1854. To them were born four children, Mary Ann (deceased), Sarah Jane, John Henry, and Abraham Russel. In early life she became a member of the United Brethren Church and throughout her long life she has given evidence that her faith had not failed. Her last message was, "If anything should happen to me, I am ready."
She has resided more than fifty years in the home where the last of life's battles were fought.
She has known what the pioneer days meant to the people of Wood County. She has known what it cost in privation, sickness, and suffering to change this part of the Black Swamp into beautiful homes and fertile fields. She passed from this life to life eternal, January 28, 1925 at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 5 days.
In her passing she leaves one brother, L. D. Creeger of Tiffin, Ohio, three children, Mrs Sarah Ann Hunt of Prairie Depot, Ohio, John Henry of Ligonere, Ind. and Abraham Russel, of Risingsun, Ohio, twelve grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the U. B. Church, Friday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.P. Hight, Interment was made in Graham Cemetery.

MRS ANNA HOOVER FOUND DEAD IN HOME
Mrs. Anna E. Hoover, 89 years, mother of R. D. Hoover, and lifelong resident of Montgomery Township, was found dead at her home two miles west and one mile north of Risingsun, Wednesday morning. It is thought death was due to heart trouble and indigestion. The opinion is she had entered the house from her chore work; Tuesday evening, and sat down in a chair, when she fell to the floor where she was found, indicating death had come early Tuesday evening. Three children survive, R. D. Hoover, John Hoover, and Mrs. Sarah Hunt.
The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at the U. B. church.

ETHEL HOOVER DEAD
After suffering for nearly six months, during which time she was confined to her bed and dangerously ill at all times, Miss Ethel Hoover, a bright and charming young lady, just past 18 years of age, was relieved of her suffering early Tuesday morning. Everything that medical skill and loving hands could do for the young life was carried out but with no reward.
Only last May she graduated from the Risingsun High School with high honors, and her death will be a severe blow to her classmates as well as parents and other relatives.
She was as a flower in the home and lived to make her parents and those who knew her happy. Death came as a blighting frost to end her mission, leaving on the sacred memory of her spirit to comfort her admirers.
Ethel E. Hoover daughter of Mr and Mrs. R. D. Hoover was born July 21, 1897, and died at the home of her parents Jan 18, 1916, aged 18 years, 5 months, and 24 days. She leaves to mourn her father and mother, one sister and a brother. She made a brave fight for her life and some little hopes were entertained for her recovery after over five months illness, but she was too weak to hold out and passed away.
The funeral will be held at the U. B. Church Friday forenoon at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Moore, Interment in Graham Cemetery.

Notes by DBA - Grandma Hoover died of leukemia. She was able to die with dignity at home. Probably the last I saw her alive I told her I now appreciated the piano lessons she had Mom and Dad make sure us kids took with her good friend Flossie Stroman, although at the time it interfered with play time for a half hour a day practice when Grandma taught us and made sure we would count (and then always had us play a piece for any visiting friends or family. I usually played The Houseof Risingsun - which she liked but I doubt she knew what it was about).
I was playing Scarlet Ribbons on the piano for her, as her bedroom was off the living room with the mahogany piano, and although she was weak she told me to play it again as I had made a mistake. I told her I
I told Grandma on her dying bed that if I got married I would name my son David and she found the energy to say, “You won't be the only one to decide that.” I told her I would let the wife name the girls and I would name whatever boys. I once wrote her we're part of the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel. She responded she thought it was more “fancy than fact.” The last birthday gift she got me was a deluxe set of Webster's Dictionaries since she said, “Every author needs a good dictionary.” Grandma told me she liked the Hoover name, that her maiden name Ort was too short. She insisted we were English, not German.

Notes for David Allen Hoover:
Why would a blond, "non-Jewish" American want to emigrate to Israel? What's the connection? Especially when so few Jews in the United States are willing to make the move. What force would drive someone to travel to Israel 11 times, serve in 8 kibbutzim and even stay there during the Persian Gulf War, complete with gas mask, with his room designated as chedar atoom - "sealed room" - that other volunteers had to run to whenever the eerie sirens sounded that another Scud Missile was headed for the Promised Land? Why would such an individual risk arrest, defamation and deportation to participate in legal demonstrations in Jerusalem?
The first time I visited Israel was with a Church group in 1980 to celebrate Sukkot - the Biblical Feast of Tabernacles. But that whirlwind experience only whet my appetite. I wanted to return for a closer look at Israel than through a tour bus window. That's how I decided to return as a kibbutz volunteer in the fall of 1982.
A kibbutz is a collective farm, although increasingly it includes other industries as well. I initially served at Ramat Yohanan near Haifa, in full view of Mt. Carmel, famous for the fiery prophet Elijah's close encounter with pagan Israelites.
You could say I have a God-given love for the Jews and the nation of Israel (Isaiah 62:6-7). That sacred bond has been strengthened over the years by the fact that I've been blessed to have lived all over Israel, getting to know its land and people quite well. Apart from 5 months at Ramat Yohanan, I've also stayed at Sdot Yam on the Mediterranean, next to Caesarea, the site of my first ulpan (intensive Hebrew course).
My ancestors sailed to America from England , including John and Priscilla Alden on the Mayflower. Why would I legally change my name from David A. Hoover to David Ben-Ariel? (Hebrew for: David, son of God's lion - a nickname for Jerusalem (Isaiah 29:1).
Because I am a Christian Zionist who believes the rebirth of Israel is nothing short of a miracle and that all bible Believers must support this fulfillment of prophecy or deny their faith.
And because I strongly believe what many are now discovering: the Israelite identity of the peoples of Northwestern Europe. This awareness of our Biblical roots and responsibility hastens the process of redemption.
Having been to Israel so many times, and written innumerable letters to The Blade (Toledo's newspaper) and various articles in support of a Jewish state, I never imagined that one day I would be deported from it!
As reported on the front page of the Jerusalem Post (Jan. 8, 1996) the GSS (Israel's Secret Service) sought my deportation on the trumped-up charges of my alleged involvement in a plot to blow up the Al-Aksa mosque. This travesty of justice occurred during the "witch hunt" that followed Prime Minister Rabin assassination. Israel's Left was exploiting Rabin's death to squash their legal opposition.
As a Christian member of the Temple Mount Faithful, I'd been privileged to participate in their legal demonstrations during my 10-month stay in Jerusalem awaiting citizenship. Israeli television often showed me with my Jewish friends carrying Israeli flags throughout the Old City. I've also had letters published in Jerusalem Post, the Traveler and other publications about the burning issue of the Temple Mount.
Presently that most holy site is under militant Muslim occupation that forcibly forbids Christians of Jews from praying or reading the Bible there. This despite the fact that both Solomon and Herod's Temple stood there, and Jesus and His disciples taught and prayed there. Israel has a law against such violent religious discrimination, but apparently they're afraid to enforce it. Such shameful appeasement rewards the aggressors and punishes the innocent! The Temple Mount Faithful boldly calls for an end to this injustice.
In my book, Beyond Babylon: Europe's Rise and Fall, I've called for the Israeli government to exercise its Jewish responsibility to build the Temple. I wrote that book in the Unites States before any of this trouble. The book explicitly explains that I'm not calling for any individual to remove the mosques, but rather expecting the GOVERNMENT to fulfill it's historic obligations. I mentioned this to the police during my six and a half hours interrogation. Later I was imprisoned in Jerusalem's "RussianCompound" for three weeks until my heartbreaking deportation.
As my attorney in Israel, Naftali Warzberger, has written, my future is linked with that of the Jews and Israel. That's why I'm confident justice will prevail. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D. OH) has persistently presented this case of religious discrimination and political persecution before our State Department. Senator Mike DeWine (R. OH) has inquired on my behalf to return to Zion and was informed that the Ministry of the Interior has made the decision not to grant the visa and does not offer any information behind their decision" They've since written Senator DeWine that I will not be eligible for a visa until "2005."

THREE ARE SERIOUSLY BURNED AT HATTON:
MOTHER, DAUGHTER, AND LITTLE SON SUFFER FROM ACCIDENTS OF LAST WEEK.
Dr. Burnham was called to Hatton, Monday of last week to give medical aid to Mrs. J. Hunt and her mother who were badly burned as the result of some kerosene being spilled upon a red hot stove.
Mrs. Hunt had gone over to her mothers, Mrs. Ireland's home just east of the railroad and was standing with her back to the stove when her little brother knocked an open can of kerosene off a shelf onto the hot stove, the contents splashing all over Mrs. Hunt's back and instantly catching fire. Mrs Ireland rushed to her daughter's aid and badly burned her won hands in removing Mrs. Hunt's clothing.
The latter is in serious condition but doing as well as could be expected, considering that so great a portion of her body was burned. The following day, Tuesday, when Dr. Burnham was out of town, Dr. Stitt of Risingsun went to dress the burns and placed his instruments in some boiling hot water to sterilize them. The little two year old son knocked the vessel off the stove and the contents deluged him, severely scalding him.
Later Mrs Hunt died and was buried Thursday and the little boy has scarlet fever.
